Making additional 2 holes for license plate frame?
I bought the frame which lets you put on all 4 screws down but my IS350 only came with 2 holes on top. Would you drill a hole to make it look flush and hold it tightly instead of hanging down or just keep it with 2 holes as is?
Just checking. You want to drill new holes in your trunk lid?
And install grommets?
I am just using the top two screws and the plate looks flush.
In fact I am using bumpers to keep the plate from hitting the trunk lid.
You can find custom frames that hide the bottom two screw holes on the license plate.
Also you can put dummy screws/nuts into the bottom holes just to fill them.
These would be plastic screws so that you could trim them flush at the nut.
Also add bumpers to protect the trunk lid.
I just want the plate to be held more securely and also rattle free in the future. My question was mainly whether drilling additional holes would damage the trunk significantly. I know some spoiler requires drilling holes too, so I assume the answer is no, but wanted to see if others have done it.
What I've done on my other car is use that super strong exterior double sided tape between the trunk and plate, and another strip between the plate and frame to keep it from moving. Then I glued a couple of those license plate screw covers on the bottom so I dont have just bare holes
