3IS Simple/"Dumb" Questions Thread - Ask away and get answers!
I completely understand. On my last car (IS300), I could tell the difference between BT and wired. On my current car, there is no difference in audio quality so I'm fortunate enough not to use the wired option.

As everyone has different levels of car/3IS knowledge, I thought this may be helpful where people such as new and old owners alike can ask casual questions about their 3IS, maintenance, operation, service, etc. without feeling like they're asking dumb questions. Anything at all! There are no dumb questions (within reason of course).
Anyone with knowledge of course is welcome to help answer peoples questions as all of us don't know all the answers. We all have to learn somehow. Just make sure it's solid information. =)
So how about it, any very basic/simple or "dumb" 3IS questions you've always wondered about? Such as what's this light for? What's this button do? What happens when you ____?

I want to know if it’s advisable or possible, I’m trying to change my whole dashboard, speedometer and navigation console from the one that came with my 2009 IS 250 to the one that comes with the 2021 IS 350, I plan on buying only original parts and accessories from Lexus themselves, I also plan on adding the parking assist and the rear view camera and some other digital features that come with the 2021 iS 350, I want to know if this is a good idea or if I’m setting myself up for trouble
The amount you would spend on parts would exceed the value of the car...and in the end it won't work. I'm sure you could get some things to function, but for sure nowhere near to everything.
If you had a 2020 IS you could probably get more items to work properly, but it still won't be everything.

Can anyone confirm that the front and rear brake pads on my 2021 IS300 AWD F SPORT are the same part # as the 2020 IS350 AWD F SPORT? Having a hell of a time trying to find any part numbers for the 2021. I know the rotor is likely different as they went to a wheel bolt vs a stud, but the caliper front and rear look identical. I'm hoping the brake pads are the same part number so I can order some upgraded pads for my car (there are many available for the 2020 IS350, but zero for the 2021 300/350).

As I search the forum for info, can't seem to get a clear answer for 60K maintenance on 2014 IS 350 FSport. Are these essential? A yes/no is all I need, unless someone wants to expand (which would be greatly appreciated):
- Change (drain and fill) tranny fluid
- Change brake fluid
- Change coolant
- Change differential and transaxle fluid
- Change drive belt (or serpentine belt)
- Change spark plugs
- Change original battery
- Anything missing?
- Also, am looking to change rotors and pads. OEM rotors seem to rust after a few months. Any suggestions for brake and rotor combo?

One question that keeps popping up is drain and fill on tranny fluid. Lifetime tranny fluid means the fluid lasts the lifetime of the transmission (Lexus' response to question on the meaning of lifetime), which can be 50K, 75K, 150, or 300K miles. Also, coolant 1st change at 100K it seems. Is this correct?

^^ OEM for the win. You can usually find the exact same part used by the manufacturer for less money simply because it doesn't have "Lexus" stamped on it. This saved me anywhere from 25-50% on parts in the GTI - getting Zimmermann brake rotors instead of VW Genuine for instance.
Akebono is one of, if not the Best brake pad for Lexus. I have been using them for years on all Lexus.
They stop way better and last longer too. They are well known for this. I use to do only Lexus pads and they are ok but they wear way to fast. Akebono if they make Pads for the Lexus you have, and you will never look back.
I also use Auto Zone Gold High carbon Black Rotors. They are well made and Carbon. They work great are harder, and also perform better and outlast the Stock rotors at a better price.
