2015 IS300H Battery won't fully charge
Hi,
I have a 2015 IS300H with 55k miles on it. Still with manufacturers warranty. The battery will not fully charge, Max charge leaves it two bars short.
My question, is there anything I should do in terms of battery care or should I get lexus to replace?
Thanks in advance.

Watching the dash graphic that depicts charge level is not the same as looking at
a fuel tank gauge. We are used to thinking in absolutes, the tank is bone dry or is
overflowing. The liquid level can be represented pretty closely (and most manufacturers
calibrate the gauge to show that it is empty when there is still a considerable margin).
The battery charge level is deliberately a limited range of the actual energy level.
A battery cannot be completely dead (empty) or completely energized (full) or it would
soon be unable to cycle properly. Our graphic is, at best, a glance at the middle 60% of
the battery condition.

You don’t want to ping lithium ion batteries to 100% all the time. That shortens their life, most likely you are only going to get them to 80%. Especially true with hybrids, due to the charge not being a limiting factor of your being able to drive the car at all like say a tesela.
jump to the CT200 section or a Prius forum if you need some more insight into what Toyota/Lexus does with the hybrid system

Do the euros pec IS hybrid have Lithium rather than Nickel-Metal hydride?

Under normal driving conditions it’s rare to reach full bars..I have seen full bars during extended down hill roads.
I began noticing issues when I regularly saw both full bars and only 1 bar. I would end the day with almost full bars and when I started the next day it dropped to one bar. Dealer said it was fine. Fuel consumption was getting worse. Then check hybrid system warning came on. Dealer recalibrated system but also recommended battery replacement. During the month the battery took to arrive the warning did not reappear, but fuel consumption was high and power loss was noticeable. After battery replacement the full tank range improved by around 300 kms.
My experience suggests a more reliable indicator of impending issues is how much charge can be held by the battery overnight. I also found out that Lexus carry out hybrid battery replacements rather more often than I expected.
I would be be interested to know about the battery longevity of cars like the 330e/530e which are technologically (and performance wise) about 25 years ahead of the Prius technology in the IS300h.
