Default Cannot get consistent power from mirror tap to radar

Hello,

I searched other threads but I couldn't find anything specific to my problem. I have a 2015 Lexus IS350 F-Sport, and I just bought a Uniden R3 and the off brand mirror tap cord from Amazon (trying to save $20). I have the taps in the correct spots because I get power to the radar. However, the power is not consistent. Sometimes when I turn the car on it turns on fine, and other times I have the wiggle the taps until they finally get power, but it seems like they have to be in the perfect spot. It is very annoying and I want to find a solution to have constant power without worrying about it. I've pressed the taps into the plastic as hard as I feel safe doing without breaking something. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? I think maybe if the ends of the taps were a bit skinnier they would fit better, but I'm not sure where I would even start making them smaller. Thanks in advance!!

here is the link:
Amazon Amazon
this tap worked fine, but I think I may have figured out the problem. The name brand mirror tap that is $40 has different size taps. I think if the tap was thinner it would fit more securely. I just purchased the $40 Mirror tap and I'm going to try the different sizes. I'll update the thread and let you know if it solves the problem!

I had actually bookmarked the Radar Mount branded one for when I get my radar detector. Guess I'll pass on it! Thanks.

If you wiggle it and it works, then your connections are not secure and does not have good contact.

So I just got the Mirror tap with the different sizes, and if you are going to hard wire a radar in a 3IS I highly recommend buying the $40 with the different sizes. The .075" or whatever the larger one is, is too big for the slots. It works in the perfect spot, but one of the smaller taps literally almost snaps into place. It is much more secure, and it turns on every time my car does. I hope this helps anyone else who has had trouble or wants to buy a tap! If anyone wants pictures let me know, it was pretty easy to install.
