OP you should consider the new OEM Audio Plus system. I just did the install and it's totally worth it! I'm about to post a thread about it soon.

I don't think either mod is worth the money/effort and do agree that you could get better sound with aftermarket amps/speakers vs. the ML system. I have never been blown away by the ML system. The non-ML in my 2014 was decent. I had upgrades to both systems as both cars were used as test mules for a company that was prototyping an upgraded system for the IS. I am not sure whether it's available for purchase or not.
For nav, I like the display, but don't find the system itself to be particularly useful. Voice recognition is sometimes ok and sometimes lousy. The system asks if I want it to route me around slow traffic and when I say yes, it doesn't do it (doesn't modify the original route at all). I am sure Lexus would be happy to take my money for a nav system update, but I'm not sure it would solve the problem.
