New owner here, I bought my car with both front wheels having a pretty damaged finish. It looks as if the previous owner used a wheel cleaner that stripped the finish. Both wheels basically need completely refinished, does anybody have any diy tips?
Also if anybody has oem wheels they are looking to sell, I may be interested.
Can you post a pic?
If it's that bad, better to have it professionally refinished. The Hypersilver finish is not easy to touch up...full finish is the best way to go.
I actually do have a set of OEM F Sport wheels, but I believe we are many many miles apart.
Thanks for the replies, here's what the wheels look like, one is a bit worst than the other but both are essentially damaged all over.
Kinda looked like they sprayed the wheel cleaner on the brake dust, and then forgot to wash it off in the specified time...or at all!
A professional refinisher will be a able to do a nice job on those...there's no crazy curb rash on the rim...the damage is more superficial.
Can't say it will work here but PO attempted touch up of F-Sport charcoal colored split five spoke with blue/green color dabbing it all over the wheel in excess. The problem was getting it removed to apply the proper color.
A razor blade is good but dangerous on the good areas, however the trusty Magic Eraser and alcohol took the applied paint off leaving the OEM finish perfectly OK.
Anyone needing minor touch up on the F-Sport Charcoal Gray Split Five Spoke us this:
Dupli-Color ACC 0414
Application is Chrysler PDR Graphite (M)

At this point, the Magic Eraser is cost effective and can't do anymore more damage than what's already done.
I agree with doodlebug...throw caution to the wind!!
I don't think a magic eraser would do anything but make it worst. You can't really tell from the pictures, but if you use a finger nail you can scratch off where the finish has been darkened and it will reveal the bare unfinished metal.
I have received a quote from a shop here in KC to have them refinished but it was $200 per wheel, which seems high to me. For that price I figured I'd see if there was any diy methods, or used f sport wheels to pick up.

$200 is definitely on the high side...and it's not even an F Sport rim with the Hypersilver finish.
If the finish is coming off with just your fingernail, I don't think any DIY method is going to make this any better.

I agree $200 seems a bit much. Fortunately I worked the wheel damage into my buying price, but I was hoping for an easier fix.
Any ideas what the PO did to the finish? It's very bizarre damage I haven't seen before, almost like they burned the finish.
