2017 IS Windshield Replacement and Safety System Camera?
Hi guys,
I have a 2017 IS Turbo. A stone fell on the windshield the other day creating an expanding crack. Looks like I'll need to get it repaired. I was wondering how much I can expect to spend on this? I want to use a third party person to do it instead of Lexus, but I am afraid that if I do it that way that there might be a camera for accident avoidance or a sensor on the windshield that might go with it? Is this the case?
Thanks for any help.

I guess the first thing is that the Lexus dealer doesn't do glass replacement...they would call a glass tech in to do it for them and just mark up what he charges them, as your cost.
You can go to a third party and request that they use a OEM glass. Reality is the labor is the same no matter what glass is used...so the real difference is the cost for the glass.
I far as I know there aren't any sensors mounted to the glass. The pre-collision sensors, if equipped, is behind the front emblem.
The anti glare mirror sensors are built into the mirror...so you should be good to go.

The camera will need to be calibrated after installation. Definitely the dealer can calibrate it, but a lot of the aftermarket glass techs have the computers necessary to do the calibration also.

wouldn't this be something that would be covered by insurance as well? I went through insurance when my moms suv had to get her windshield replaced, they had a tech who had to recalibrate the rain sensor that was in the windshield/rearview mirror region

Yes, many insurance companies will pay for a windshield replacement at no cost to the owner.

Last year a rock chip ended up forcing me to replace the front windshield on my 2015 IS350. I have Allstate insurance and their default is to use Safelite. They are ok, I've used them before on other cars, however I called Allstate and asked if I could have it replaced by the dealer since it was fairly new car. They agreed to it, I paid my deductible and Allstate paid the difference. The front windshield replacement was approx $1100 at the Austin Lexus dealership. The repair was solid, no complaints.

Of course insurance is going to want to use the cheapest. Press for OE or just pay the diff out of pocket.
I don't think there's any "calibration", they just reattach he camera and rain sensor with new gasket/tape.

I had my windshield replaced on my 2014 IS 250 last week 6/28/2017.
I contacted my two local Lexus dealers in Dallas and Fort Worth to get quotes and they quoted 1350+ dollars to do the repair. I asked if they do the repair themselves or contract it out. So the dealership contracts out glass replacement to a lexus glass specialist in the area and they gave me the company name. I contacted the contractor directly and they replaced my windshield with OEM IS 250 glass for 850$ installed.
Very happy with the results I would deff recommend asking your AD who they contract their windshield replacements too.
