Question DIY Paint Protection // Clear Bra

Hi, there's quite a bit of chatter about clear bras and paint protection. Looking at my gold GS there's tons of dings, so with a recently purchased grey IS350 F-Sport this stuff might be a good investment.

I'm getting quotes ranging from $800+ for partial coverage to $2000 for full coverage and there's so many vendors out there from independents, mobile service, body shops, so-called specialists, etc.

Just wondering ~ have you attempted this yourself ~ maybe with the 3M spray on stuff, or anything else, and how's the results? Also, any horror stories?

Also, it seems like hardly anyone gets doors done and vendors barely include "doors" in their packages - why is that? Is the hood, bumpers, and fenders good enough?

THANKS!!

I did the clear bra on the food and fender myself. They were pretty easy.

I tried the headlight and couldn't get it to stick around the curve and edges, so I ended up only covering the hood and fender.

I can vouch for the rear wheel splash protection from here. It's been on my car since I got it. No rock chips.

If you don't attempt it yourself look for a business that does it outside of the LA metro area. I live just outside Atlanta and clear film on the full hood and front bumper would have cost me $1,000 or more. I found a place in Birmingham,AL about 2 1/2hrs away that did it for $550.

I did mine myself using a 3m scotchgard pro kit from eBay, like this one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/222133472970

Helps to have a second set of hands, and it's a bit tedious, but well worth the time and effort imo for how much money you save.

To get it to lay flat on some of the more severe curved areas requires patience and the correct alcohol mixture. Mostly patience though. You may have to sit there and hold a wrinkle flat for 5 strait minutes to ensure it stays down, only to see it pop back up again after an hour lol

Lightbulb PPF Almost Complete!!

Hi, because IS350 FSports have so many bumps & curves & humps I decided to go with professional MOBILE installation so I wouldn’t have to leave my car at a shop all day. I live in a building with a shared garage, and sub-par lighting, so we had to find a good spot to park the car near electricity & water, and then get everything set up. The guys wrapped almost everything except for the roof and trunk (which I might attempt myself), and the job was finally 100% complete after around a whopping TEN+ STRAIGHT HOURS OF WORK!!

See the attached pix wayyy before the PPF has had a chance to fully cure which some say takes around 2 weeks.

Special mention to Starr Autoworks starring Mark & David for giving me a GREAT DEAL and doing a detailed, diligent, meticulous, orderly, and responsible job.

Did they wrap the whole car? Minus the roof/trunk.

How much was the job, if you don't mind me asking?
