Default Is this normal?

My 2016 IS350 fuel door (not the gas cap) can open without having to press down on it to release the latch. For example: if the car is unlocked I can pull the fuel door open (noticed when I went through a touchless carwash the blow dryer was causing it to flap open and closed. However If the car is locked it does not open if I pull on it or push the mechanism to open it. Is this supposed to happen or should the door only be opening when pushed on? Maybe someone else can give it a try, thanks.

It shouldn't just pull open. You should have to push it first to release it.

Yea that doesn't sound normal at all. Like JDR76 mentioned, you have to push it in first to open it.

Like the rest said, you have to push it first to open it. Shouldn't be doing what your describing. Your warranty should cover this though so I would just take it to the dealership to have it repaired. I think I read someone have a similar issue to this on here before as well.

That's not normal either. Normal operation is to push the door on the right side inward and it will pop out. Push it back to lock it in place. I'd go to dealer if it doesn't work like that.

Try checking the lanyard on the fuel cap, i once had the same problem. The lanyard was just positioned upwards instead of to the side, and that caused the door to be just out of reach of pushing onto the latch.

Went to check on the push lever button this morning. Just didn't feel right as i manually pressed it. I pulled off the black rubber gasket and found the very tip of the plastic broke off. My previous car was a Mercedes which had the same locking and push to open fuel door as Lexus. Since my fuel door wasn't working properly since driving off the dealership, I just assumed Lexus had a strange design. Thanks to the OP to bring this subject to light.

So according to Lexus what I described is normal. They checked it out and said everything is working properly. I even had a service technician give me the keys to another IS on the lot and the same thing occurs. So now I'm super confused.. as some people have said that it is not normal and the door should only open from being pressed on. So just to confirm I am explaining properly- when my car is unlocked I am able to pull open my fuel door with my finger without releasing anything using the push lever system. If the car is locked I am NOT able to pull it open or push on it.

To make things worse I dropped the car off for an oil change and they didn't change the oil either, they only performed my 24,000KM service check.

When the car is unlocked, then the gas tank is released. You can technically pull it open, but the intended behavior is for you to push it in and have the mechanism pop out. When the car is locked, the gas tank should not be able to be pulled open.

Thanks for the clarification, it seems as though mine is working as intended.
