thanks for the installation tips, but before i get to that part, are the studs on the spoiler removable? are you guys cutting them off or what? One would imagine that if the studs are meant to stick through the trunk's sheetmetal and fastened inside, they would prevent the spoiler from being double-sided taped on without drilling holes.
The studs on factory spoilers are removable, they just slide in from different sides of their respective mounting points. If they didn’t make them this way, when ever we (the factory team members) crossthreaded a nut mounting them to a vehicle, we could never make a repair to it, resulting in a scrapped spoiler and higher costs. We mount with the nuts first then pull the tape last pressing into final mounting position. So yes, they can be removed and yes, it can be installed with tape only, but you’d want to add more than that is included as it’s thin and provided as an aid in the final install.
Here in this photo taken from the video you will see the stud with it foam gasket, it will simply press/slide out to the left or right from it’s mounted point if you wanted it removed. No harm, no foul, it’s easy as that.
Thanks, boss! Even more thanks if you could round me up one, haha
Heck, if I could I would, but the ES won’t fit ours and I don’t think I could sneak it out in a lunch box. 😂 like the J. Cash song, one piece at a time, except I’d have a multi year Lexus, maybe some Toyota parts on it too. Ha-ha Now wouldn’t that be a sight. Truth be told though, every model I have experience building (2000’s and up)all the spoilers went on the same way and could be repaired the same, that’s the only reason why I know they come out. You will want to do the 3M tape ends like he does in the video too, that’s how we install them as well, but the vendors actually have built in tabs for us to pull the tape off where as he does some make shift tabs to pull. Prep is king too, factory vehicles have virgin paint, so you’ll wanna take off the waxes and sealants before applying with tape just for longevity’s sake.
$400+$60 for installing that is pretty crazy, I think you can do it yourself. What sucks about drilling is...mine came with the car as an option and I can’t put other spoilers on because the dealer drilled into my trunk.
Best price I've seen on OEM is ~$218 shipped, or $199 for the DAR. Issue with OEM is you need the template or have to really measure carefully to get the holes right, otherwise the template is another $50. Would have thought more people would offer theirs up once done installing.
I am about to order my factory spoiler in a few days and will measure out where I drill the holes for yalls when I install it. can't believe the people who bought the template hasn't done so to help their fellow IS owners.
There's one on eBay for $30 obo, but I've ordered the DAR one. Even if it comes with bolts doubt I'll drill, only perhaps if a proper template accompanies it.
Yes, and the main difference being shipping. Lowest total on eBay is around $236 after adding shipping and tax, without template.
Were you pleased with the DAR spoiler? I am also considering it instead of buying the OEM one from Lexus and removing the bolts. Is it as good as the Lexus one? Thanks.

Yes, very pleased. Fit perfectly, cannot tell the difference from OEM. The tape is VERY sticky, so be careful when putting it on. That baby ain't coming off!
