How often do you change Break Pads?
Hi guys,
Wanted to know how often do you guys change break pads on your 250's?
me and my friend both have 250 F-sport. I only drive my IS on weekends and just hit 5000 miles but what got me surprised is that my friend finished his pads on 10,000 miles. it was so worn that he had to send his discs to be changed as well because they were severely scratched. (also should mention that his breaks were squeaking for 2 weeks but he kept driving on it)
in his case he drives the car as if he stole it with numerous sudden breaks all the time. in my case I consider my self as a normal driver (not a right lane driver but just... Normal)
with all things explained what mileage do you think I'm gonna be needing a change? also I know this is too early but would appreciate any estimates for rear pads as well.
thanks

It depends a lot on the conditions in which you drive and your driving style. My 350 has 30,000 miles on it and my original pads (front and back) are still in good shape. I drive 70ish miles per day roundtrip for work and it's 90% highway, so I do little braking.

Had to change my pads and rotors at 20,000 miles give or take. Dealership didn't catch the front pads wearing down at the 15K check. Pads went from 6mm to 1mm in 5K?....I don't think so! (that's another angry story). Anyway, front rotors were grooved so I upgraded them and the pads myself. I commute 50 miles round trip in stop and go traffic, so I'm on the brakes a lot unfortunately.

I have 43000miles on my 350 f sport and still have 7mm.
I do 70miles a day with 70% interstate. I also do a lot of engine breaking. Rarely ever do a hard stop and usually do rolling stops as well.

As others have said, it'll largely depend on your driving style and driving conditions. It would be best to learn how to check your BRAKE pads yourself or find a trustworthy mechanic that won't lie to you and tell you to replace them prematurely.
You could also just run them until you hear them squeak (hitting the wear indicators), but you run the risk of damaging your rotor that way and having to replace them like your friend.

thanks for all the feedback guys. I don't do a lot of highway driving. mostly urban which includes a lot of traffic. reading all response I see that some of you are getting very decent mileages! if I get it up to 20,000 Miles ill consider my self lucky.
