Default Oil Change Interval - 8000KM?...

I was surprised to see that the oil change interval on My 2015 IS350 is only 8000KM (~5k miles) - I am wondering why it is so low - I have a 2016 Highlander and the interval is 16000km (similar engine).

My previous Sienna (2012) was also 16000KMs...

It seems to me that synthetic oil should last a lot longer that 8k-KM/5kMiles....Maybe its just a cash grab.

I think its a Canada thing. The oil change intervals in the US IS350 is 16000 km

Starting 2016 MY, Maintenance interval one @ 8000km doesn't include an oil change, oil change is at maintenance interval 2 @ 16000km.

Is there anything different from the Canadian IS350awd 2014 to 2016 that would make this change? I thought the only things different were just small electrical thing not major components. I am wondering if I can follow the oil 2016 schedule for my 2014.

It's not an "oil change interval", it's a service interval.

Here's the schedule for the 2015 IS 350 from Lexus Canada:

For my 2017, I am supposed to do my first oil change at 16,000km...... i ended up doing it myself at 8,000km. I don't think i would ever keep oil in my car that long (for me thats more than a year).

It's user's preference if they want to do it 8,000km or 16,000km. I've kept oil in my Mazda 6 skyactive up to 30,000km. Blackstone labs said I could take it higher.

In 2016, Lexus Canada changed their service appointment schedule for the IS. The oil change interval went from 8000 km to 16000 km. From other threads in the forum, these recommended intervals are based on environmental and market considerations. I believe in the US, the oil change interval has always been 16000 km (10000 miles) for the IS.

They've also re-worded the service visits from "Lubrication" and "Maintenance" (both of which had oil changes) to "Service #1, #2, #3". Service #1 is a totally useless consisting of nothing but inspections. Service #2 is the old Lubrication service. Service #3 is the old Maintenance service. The intervals has basically been doubled in distance and time.

In other words, I would say it is safe to bump the interval longer since there are no drive train changes for the IS 350 in the 2016 MY. However, I change my old at 8000 km anyway because I feel more comfortable with that.

In middle east we change oil every 10000 km, and it is hot around here. I’m not sure why it is 8000km in Canada while the temperature is way less than here.
The only thing I could think of is getting more money from extra services.

At the end of the day, the maintenance schedule is just a recommendation. However, I'd say changing the oil at 8,000 km intervals (or 5,000 miles) is overkill. If you drive hard or just want the extra protection, that's up to you, at the end of the day. However, there's no need to do the oil changes so frequently for most drivers.

It's not every 8,000, it's every 16,000. Please see the schedule I posted above.

Agreed. What blows my mind is that some people are doing oil changes at 3,000 miles on full synthetic. Oh well, it's their money, not mine.
