Default Door lock question

My doors are set to lock automatically when I put my car in drive, and unlock automatically when in park.
I noticed the other day that when in drive, they can still be opened from the inside. Is this correct?
I'm thinking it is that way so in case of an accident a person inside will still be able to get out.

yes, your car's door locks are functioning as they should.
