Default Winter Tire Setup

Hello All

Before anyone tells me to search the forums...i did...there is way to much information with different opinions...so, this is the reason i started a thread...

I have a 2015 is250 AWD with luxury package (Canadian car) with 18 inch staggered wheels

I think (i'm not sure) my current wheels are as follows:

front: 18x8 225/40/18 offset ??? i think is 45 but i dont know for fact
rear: 18x8.5 255/35/18 offset ??? i think is 50 but i dont know for fact

I want to get the following Winter setup

Winter alloy rims: 17x7.5 with 42 offset
Tires WS80 or Nokian H... r2 @ 225/45/17

my question becomes:

Will going from 18x8/18x8.5 inch staggered rims to 17x7.5 @ 225/45/17 winter setup cause me any issues?

By the way, how does the IS250 handle in Montreal snow?

Thank you in advance

I use TireRack to get an idea and they say it will fit.

Because you have a 250 (smaller front brakes) you can go with a 16" rim according to their website.
215/55-16

Having a non-staggard setup will not affect you either as the originals are pretty darn close to the same diameter anyway.

If you ever plan to upgrade your brakes to larger units then I would consider the 17's, otherwise you can save a few $$ and get a 16" package.

Try this site: http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp
It will let you compare rim & tire setups side by side and tell you if everything will clear / fit right.

Hey newToIS250,

I was told by Lexus Laval to consider a non-staggered setup for winter. They said that they won't recommend the OEM 17in from the basic IS250 because that would cost too much lool... instead they rather suggest me jobber 17in mags that would fit my IS350. The reason they gave me was that the winter tires for the staggered setup and 18in are extremely rare and that they would wear out fast! They said I would be lucky if the tires last 2 winters! All depending on milage and driver!

Considering the price for 18in low-profile winter tires, going with 17in mags would sound like a good idea. But I think I'll keep my F-Sport 18in mags for the winter. I'm leasing the car for 4 years so no need to pay for winter mags. Plus, the look would be badly affected for the winter time...

So I don't think going to a square 17in setup would affect anything. Lexus themselves recommended me that. Also, I'm curious to see how the IS AWD would handle in Montreal snow!!

Thank you...

I used this site http://www.willtheyfit.com

Note:

Using the below sizes:

225/40/18 18 x 8.0 x offset 45mm
225/45/17 x 7.5 x offset 42 mm

I entered the above 2 sizes in the following 2 links but im getting different answers ???

http://www.willtheyfit.com
The outer rim will poke out 3.3mm less than before.

http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Package 2 will stick out 3 mm (0.1'') farther. Acceptable for most cars.

As you can see these are 2 different answers...i wonder if i did this properly ???

in both:

Im pretty sure i have made up my mind...

Im going with 225/45/17 tires and rims of 17x7.5 offset of 42

I found the perfect size alloy rims for winter (little ugly)

im deciding Between WS80 @ 200$ a piece or the Nokian H... r2 @ 220$ each

the rims are 136$ each + TPMS (between 55$ and 65$ depending who i talk to)

I just need to haggle a little more...

Im also curious how the IS250 AWD will do in Montreal winters...

Question to all

How do i find my offset ?

I have an AWD is250 2015 luxury package

My wheels are:
front: 18x8 225/40/18 offset ??? i think is 45 but i dont know for fact
rear: 18x8.5 255/35/18 offset ??? i think is 50 but i dont know for fact

I dont know for sure the offset, those are just a guess...does anyone know how to get the offset without removing the tires?

Thanks in advance

I live in montreal (west island) and have been driving a 2011 IS250 (about to trade for a '15 350) for 4 years now. I have winter tires and rims - the ones that come with the car as part of my negotiation - dunlop I believe - nothing special.

This car is amazing in the snow - in fact I often say that it gives me a false sense of security because it takes off and handles so well but still requires the same distance as any other car to stop.

Its amazing in the snow...bottom line...
