Default Question/Help with Escort Passport Max Install

I just ordered a Escort Passport Max with a blendmount vehicle mount for my '14 I350 F Sport. I do not want to run power through my car charger. My thought process is rather than messing with the electrical system and running a mirror tap I would like to run the wire through the headliner and down to the fuse box. I figure this way is much safer than getting into an argument with the dealer should I encounter any electrical problems. My question I pose to you all has anyone on this board done a wire directly to the fuse box?

I'm considering picking up these parts for this job:

Direct Wire Power Adapter Kit

https://store.valentine1.com/store/partsdept.asp

Bussman Fuse Tap

Anyone else have any experience with this job? I would like to tackle it myself.

Thanks

Yep. My dashcam is hooked up exactly the same way. I actually didn't even bother with the wire tap, I just shoved it into the switched leg of one the fuses. For my dashcam, the current draw is so low this isn't going to be an issue. I would check the power requirement of your radar detector first, although it's probably along the same lines as a dashcam I would imagine.

Here's a thread with a DIY where a member hooked up a radar detector and dashcam similarly.

Just in case you haven't thought of it, have you considered powering it through your mirror's power source? I have the same detector and mount, and I also got the mirrortap from blendmount and it was super easy to install. And it looks really clean too.

I did consider a mirror tap. I understand that would be the logic and ease of install. However, I would prefer direct wire to fuse box in the event I have any electrical problems it will be a much easier conversation with my dealer that its ran directly to my fuse box.
