Default Scratches on interior help!!!

I have noticed scratches in the interior; door panel and steering wheel on the metal parts.

Its my wifes daily driver so Im not too sure whats causing the scratches but im wondering if anyone else is seeing this as a issue.

Does anyone have a fix or suggestion to repair or a avoid it?

Thanks,

I have a few scruffs on the passenger dashboard and glove box. I tried all the vinyl cleaners from auto zone. None seem to work. I just think the new lexus dash is very delicate. I need some help too!

I bet it's from jewelry (rings bracelets etc).

I just cleaned my odometer and got scratches on the plastic. There light scratches but are totally noticeable. I even used a new microfiber towel. To clean the inside i use this stuff from klasse. Its the best stuff ever. It says imported from germany. Its great because you apply it on everything from vinyl, leather rubber and plastic. They also sell some for the outside you apply it to paint, trim and even the glass. Ive been telling everyone about it

From day one I've set rules.... nothing goes on the dash and everything must be handled with care if rings/bracelets are involved

Thoughts on how to remove? I'm not too sure where its from but I figure Lexus would know it scratches so easily.

I bought some plastic scratch remover once. It removed a few hairline scratches, but overall didn't do much.

Nothing you can do about that scratch on the wheel unfortunately. Anything you rub on that plastic is just going to change its finish and make it worse

I agree!

DO NOT use any type of abrasive polish on that plastic. Once you start, there is no going back.

If it really bothers you, just take it to a bodyshop and have them respray the entire plastic piece and use a clearcoat (gloss or matte) that's more scratch resistant than whatever is on there now.

Any other ideas? Have anyone heard that WD-40 can help polish away scratches? I'm sure I'm not the first 3IS owner to experience this. Thanks for all the replies!

Like I said before...it you rub anything into that portion of your steering wheel you're going to make it worse.

You need to understand what a scratch is. A Scratch is a line where part of the surface has been scraped away, exposing the layer of surface underneath.

How does one remove a scratch without repainting or resurfacing the material? You have to reduce the level of the overall surface to where there is no longer a difference between the height of the bottom of the scratch and the surrounding surface. That is how scratches are buffed out of paint. This is how rough or uneven spots are sanded out of piece of wood.

What is that surface on your steering wheel? It is grey or black plastic that is dyed or painted to have that matte silver surface. Its not a buffable surface, no matte surface is. If you do something like rub WD40 into it or try and buff it away, you're going to either expose the black plastic underneath or otherwise discolor or change the appearance of the part.

It sucks, but sometimes with a car you have to know when to just leave something like that alone.
