I have had the car for two weeks already and these sounds are driving me crazy. Its definitely coming from the center console area, I can even move it a bit and its makes the squeak sound. On bumps something like a little plastic pebble feels like it rattles. I went to lexus and they couldn't really do anything about it. They said its normal when two plastics come together to squeak.
I have that as well. In a few threads down there was talk about it also. They said they went to the dealer and they opened it and put in some type of felt material to help the plastics from squeaking, I guess go back there or at a different lexus dealer and complain.
OK.. Here's the deal with rattle. Drove me crazy for about 1000 miles. Took it to the dealer who padded up everything to no avail. Took it back again and viola! The plastic cover for the shift lock!!
Remove it then lube up the switch beneath it.(wd40 is fine) pad up that switch cover and problem solved!
I had it after they replaced my media unit. They found it to be the plastic around the shift lever.. Supposedly they put some felt in there. I haven't heard it again.
I pinned it down today. At first I thought it was the part in front of the mouse.
It's the piece where the gear selector is. If you push down while driving the squeaking stops.
I'm getting a cracking sound come out of the center console on hot days and the air starts blowing through. I figured the cracking sound was a result of the hot plastic being cooled... science?
I had noise coming from the molded plastic piece w/ cupholders. I removed it, wrapped all of the interfacing plastic parts (clips mostly) with thin felt tape, and reinstalled. No more noise.
onemorecar - all cars have these kind of small issues. I bought the roll of felt tape from my local BMW dealer.
As for hearing plastic movement when the car is hot and a/c on, this is normal -- rapid, large temperature differential across many touching plastic parts. One thing that helps is window tint and a sunshield -- your dashboard will thank you in the longrun and the temperature changes will be less drastic.
