This is actually pretty awesome! I don't like the stock screen much, plus mine got scratched so i removed the coating and now you can see it reflecting everything which is annoying. The only issue with this tablet idea is how would you charge it without taking it out of there? Would be nice to have some charging solution so it becomes a permanent screen. Btw, do you know how to turn off the main screen and keep it that way? It just comes back on to navigation for some reason every now and then. I wish there were a way to disable the navigation completely, I never use it and it's painfully slow.

There is a way , make sure your car is in park , hit the menu button , go to setup , then general and look for screen Change , it's on automatic , switch it to manual :-) u should be all set !!! As far as charging it ! I'll just charge it at home it's not like I'm gonna be in the car all day and it holds a pretty good charge anyways :-)

Alright, i just ordered a nexus 10, figured i could use that while working on my hobby stuff in the kitchen too. Do you think that'll fit at all into that area or will it be too oversized?

It's prob gonna be a little oversized , I was thinking of using the iPad mini but it stuck too so I'll just stick to this one ;-) did u get that screen fixed when it always goes back to the Nav ? It's real easy to do :-)

Yeah I tried that but for some reason sometimes it still manages to go back to nag (every 5th drive or so). I just want the screen to stay off for good. Also going to try a nexus 7 to see which one fits better. Btw, how do you connect your nexus to your phone so you get internet? I've never had a tablet so I don't know anything about them.

Very creative idea. I like it. Makes me think about this idea applied to my RX family hauler for long trips.

I assume you're streaming the sound to the car's speakers via bluetooth?

The tablet has LTE service so no problem for me but I also have tethering on my iphone 5 and unlimited data ;-)

No doubt it looks good up there but Having it up there so high makes it quite useless for other things like finding album to play over Bluetooth quickly or using google maps. It is quite a stretch if it is mounted up that high.

I was thinking of making a fiberglass mold of the HVAC area actual that will dock a nexus 7 with Qi wireless charging that is all held on by magnets, mount to car and Nexus to mount as well. make it look like part of the vehicle as much as possible. HVAC aren't super necessary to use and can be done from the factory navi interface. This location would be the perfect glance view angle and touch use.

This is all just an idea in my head that will probably take me a while to get started on with how busy things are going around me.
