I noticed the same noise too. Can only hear it when windows all up and over 3500rpm.
I described to a friend the noise was like "a plastic bottle with a few pieces of sesame".
Anyone found the source yet?

Come to think of it, I heard a noise similar to this once. It was around 5500-6000 rpm, and I would describe it was a rattling sound. It ended as soon as the car upshifted. That was back when I had about only 1500 miles on the car, about 2 months ago, and it hasn't happened since then. (I have an IS 300.) Since I haven't been able to reproduce it, it might be a different issue. Thoughts?

Has anyone resolved this ?! It's absolutely abnoxious and you definantly don't look cool in your luxury sedan with this noise when flying by people. Iv done some research and some people say that Lucas oil treatment got rid of it and I was wondering could this be the sound of the faulty valve springs from the VVT recall?

Also, if you're thinking you can hear it outside the car, then maybe we have different issues. I have noticed a few times that the noise from the sound generator can cause something in the interior to rattle, so I might have just been hearing that.

someone should take a video of this noise. It comes and goes... cant really pinpoint on when the noise actually occurs, other than when its in that RPM range. but it doesn't happen all the time either, and not much opportunity around here to consistently rev it up that high on the road.

I had the same high pitched rattle/buzzing noise when accelerating in the upper RPM range. It never bothered me too much, but it took away from the otherwise refined interior. I upgraded to the F-Sport intake a few months ago which eliminates the resonator tube and I immediately noticed the buzzing was gone. I would say it has something to do with the noise reverberating through to the inside once the intake noise is piped into the cabin.

Bumping this, I have what I suspect is the same noise from my IS250 2006 or 2007. The noise is not always there, and appears to be more present in heavy rain for some reason (I have only heard it in the rain). 5500-6000RPM or so, first time it happened I thought it was the wheels touching the inner fender (I was going sideways for the first time with new 18" wheels). Now, several months later it happened again, heavy rain this time as well, but this time going straight. I sounds like it comes from the engine, or at least the engine bay. Not reproduceable in neutral.

I am bumping this thread once more...I have the same exact noise over about 4.5k RPM. As well, now that the temperatures have dropped... I also faintly hear under certain road conditions. Has anyone been able to solve this issue?

Thanks, hades281, but I may be done with the arrogance of the service manager and advisors of the dealer. Too much to write, but disgusting. Shop foreman is fantastic however; should be promoted!
You may have nailed it though; catalytic converter it may be! By mentioning it, I just recalled that Land Rover had a similar issue in the past, and drilling screws into the converter to secure the insides solved it (non-official fix, obviously)!

Just an FYI...I took mine to the dealer and of course the noise mysteriously disappeared even after a lengthy test drive with the shop foreman. The foreman and service advisor mentioned hearing about the issue with GS' but not with IS'. The issue in the GS' is some sort of part that lies against the firewall behind the dashboard. I'll mention it at my 15k mile service if the noise pops up again.
