Default Car reliability drops for first time since 1998

The take away:

"In terms of individual brands, Lexus once again took top honors and widened its lead when it comes to dependability.
"The difference between Lexus and the field is dramatic. In terms of the survey, it is a long ways ahead of others," Sargent said. "In fact, six of the top 12 vehicles in the industry are Lexus models."

4 cylinder cars got worse in 2011. Turbos anyone? BMW, Audi, Ford, Range Rover (I mean Escape 2L Turbo in the Evoque)..............................

It's why I'm not complaining about the 2.5L V6 in my 2IS and now 3IS not being replaced by a Turbo 4. Lexus will have taken years longer to put this new engine out to market to ensure best-in-class reliability and NVH standards.

Congrats Lexus on incontestably being KING of dependability. We stand proud.

Man, you should have opened the thread with a different title. I was like "Whaaat?". Good to know that I did not make the wrong choice. I plan on keeping my 3IS long term.

German makers keep pumping out 4-cyl turbo engines without extensive reliability test and let the consumer suffer with problems.

I would not make a statement that germans suffer due to unreliable 4 cylinder turbo engines. Nor would I say that Lexus is better off not making ones with turbos but rather testing them and then unleash super reliable forced induction engines that ain't break down. That would not be a correct the statement.

Germans have been building the forced induction engines for really long time now and they have the know-how first hand as how to build the reliable turbo/supercharged engines. They burned and they learned and they burned again and learned again. And every time they burned they made improvements. Now think about that Lexus is just starting the game and they have to go through all that Germans went through already. This is called experience. Now that statement I would definitely make. Sorry to disappoint but that is truth.

Forced induction engines are not new to Toyota.

+1 - the title of the thread is highlly misleading.

The first thing that I thought was "Lexus dropped in reliability numbers for the first time since 1998."

That's how it came across to me anyway. Not sure if the original poster originally intended for this type of reaction (to draw in readers), but I felt more at ease when I read the rest of the post.

If the OP reads this, I would advise you to change your topic title for clarity sake.

Really? Because 2.5 is the most unreliable engine Lexus has in the lineup. And not updating the engine might mean that they are milking their consumers as the engine is not a performer nor fuel efficient. I wonder if in 2020 they'll still have this engine since they kept it for the longest.
