Default AWD hump size vs. previous gen?

I have a friend who owns a 2009 Lexus IS AWD which I drive sometimes.

The AWD hump is kind of horrible. I have size ~12 feet and i can't put my foot square on the accelerator. I have to angle my foot maybe 20 degrees. Super super annoying.

Now she's talking about buying a newer model with AWD and I'm trying to figure out if they did anything about this AWD hump in the most recent generation. Does anybody have any information about this? Thank you in advance!

The AWD hump on the 2nd gen IS is big and stick out more then the 4th gen IS, i never seat on the 3rd AWD Is, so i dont know about that hump? But i sat in my friend 2nd IS AWD and compare to my 2023 IS AWD, in the second Gen IS that hump is in the way and i feel i rest my leg on that hump, the newer IS the hump much smaller my leg not even touch that hump

Thanks for the quick and informative reply. Looks like we're going to go test drive a new IS in that case.

3rd and "4th" gen are identical. (They're actually not even different gens.)

thanks for that info, like i said i never seat in the 3rd gen IS AWD so i dont know about that hump, when i bought my 2023 IS AWD without seat down and test drive, i just bought it because i like the look of the new 4th gen IS, the great thing about the new IS AWD is the hump much smaller than the 2nd IS that i sat in long time ago, with the new IS i dont even feel or touch the hump when i am driving, maybe i am a small guy lol

My whole point was "4th" and "3rd" actually are the same, so if you know how big the hump is in your car, then you know how big it is in any 2014-2025 IS AWD.

I owned a 2016 and never found the hump to be a big issue, but now that I have a RWD car without the hump, I prefer having that additional space.

I used to have a 2007 AWD IS250 (actually is still in the family), but go so used to the hump that when I bought a 2021 AWD IS350, I barely noticed the difference. But now that I have a RWD IS500, going back into a "hump' car becomes noticeably annoying . My point is here is that just get used to it and put it out of mind. It never really impeded my driving in any way. If anything, I would rest my leg on the hump. LOL.

I looked at a 2025 IS last night.

So, the hump in the 2009 IS is big and smooth and spherical.

The hump in the 2025 seems to be mostly the same size and shape, by my estimation, but they've kinda deformed the sphere to make more space for a person's foot.

So, there's still a hump, and it's still big, but they've made it less of a problem.

I wear a size 13 and don’t notice the hump in my ‘15. I was concerned before I bought the car from negative reviews of the hump but isn’t an issue for me.

Over 6 foot, size 14 and the hump doesn't impact anything.

I don't even notice the hump. It's never touched.
