Stolen Vehicle
My vehicle was recently stolen and I’ll fast forward to the end result, I managed to get it back the same night because I had an AirTag in the Vehicle, Now, I am very leery and concerned about keyless entry.
The perpetrator broke out the passenger back window and either open the doors or gained entry through that opening. Not sure at that point if the doors were even open, the perpetrator may have also exited through the back window. Im not sure also why he couldn’t use the signal to open the doors instead of breaking the window. The intruder managed to drive off with my car and I’m a bit concerned and interested in finding out possibly how this was done. My vehicle was parked directly outside of my row house on the street in DC about 200 feet away. I normally, at bedtime place the key fob and a metal container but only when I go to bed. I’m gonna change that practice. I received no alert from the Lexus app. i’m not even sure if the vehicle alarm went off at least I didn’t hear it. I called Lexus Enform regarding the tracking of my car for l and they told me they needed a full police report in their system in order to provide me any information. I sort of understand this but at the moment I found their process a bit useless and not helpful, as I had the police officer standing in my living room, making out the report. Fortunately, again, I was able to locate my car through an Apple AirTag, which I had placed in the vehicle early last year. The police officer taking the report had an officer dispatched to the address I provided, and found the vehicle parked in an apartment complex with other residential vehicles. Today i took my car to the Lexus dealer to have it repaired and with my concern, I asked that they reprogram my keyless entry system with either a new fob or the original one, but with a new transmitted signal, as I’m not sure if the perpetrator was able to copy the original signal. Ive also added a bit more security by ordering a wheel lock, a visible wheel lock brightly colored. If anyone has any experience with this and can shed some light, please advise. Thank you.

I also had my 16 200 IS stolen maybe four months ago. I had an AirTag in the car. I live in the Bay Area and the car was being driven around Oakland, which is not the city I live in. I live in Richmond, not too far from Berkeley. It took over two hours for a cop to come out. Once the report was taken, I could then call Oakland police. They never went out to look for the car, even with addresses I had where my car was. I'm sure they ran out of gas in three days and abandoned the car. Alameda Sheriff Dept. found the car abandoned. It was mostly fine with some marks on both sides. We have a Ring camera. They shattered the sun roof and attached a device to the OBDII reader and drove the car away at 7:30 in the morning. I had a steering wheel Club type device, which they removed by cutting the steering wheel and lifting it off. We now have kill switches in our three cars. I also got a device that monitors our driveway (no garage) and makes a noise if a person or car walks up or down the driveway. I have wheel locks on the wheels, but not colored. I don't know if any of this helps. These people are screwed up, like those who rob stores instead of going to work. California just passed new laws to put more of these idiots in jail, etc. Sorry this happened to you. Where do you live?
I’m in Washington DC. Thank you for your reply.
Also, yes i know that area vaguely because i was in the Navy stationed at the Alameda Naval Station back in 1982-83 on my ship when was moved to the east coast. question, where do you get kill switches installed? Also I the dealer reprogram my key fob and this time I’ll be a little more vigilant in securing. It was just concerned that with the original break in, my key fob signal was replicated.

Sorry to hear about your car being stolen. Thank goodness you had the airtag in there.
Can I ask what year your car is? Lexus/Toyota has supposedly added canbus encryption to 2022+ vehicles when they get a refresh.
I'm not sure if the IS got this with its 2022 refresh. Though, all the 3rd party remote start vendors do NOT support 2022+ IS. Maybe that's an indication.
