Default F Sport Intake vs Stock

Does anyone know if the F sport intake and air box on the IS 350 actually makes any difference to the car’s sound or performance?

Installing it would remove the sound intake generator and I’m curious to know how that would affect the sound in the cabin. YouTube videos do not do this issue any justice.

It would sound a little more throatier compared to stock (but not by much) and performance-wise maybe a 1 or 2 HP gain? We're not talking a huge performance gain by any means.

Most people that do not want to purchase the full F-Sport intake kit just purchase the F-Sport engine air intake filter separately and cut a hole in the stock airbox and remove the charcoal filter. I don't have the intake kit, but do have the filter installed in my stock airbox and don't really notice any performance differences than stock.

From what I've seen removing the sound generator will make it quieter

On the intake tube, there is branch off (on the right side) that allows some of the airflow to divert and aim towards the cabin. This basically diverts some of the intake sound towards the driver, making it sound a bit louder inside the car.

The F sport intake that you can replace with the stock intake does not have this branch off.

Thanks for that.

I thought Ford was the only Mfg. that pulled this crap. One of the first mods on my Musang was to remove the 'sound tube' similar to this. Stupid, unnecessary bull**** IMO.

No problem. Something to note is that unlike some cars (like the ecoboost mustang), this intake deviation doesn't pump or create any artificial sound into the cabin. A lot of cars today use artificial noise generation software to create a louder, more appealing sound. Lexus doesn't use this. It's simply a design that propels the raw sound towards the driver.

I drove an ecoboost mustang as a rental in florida for a week and hated the sound it made. It sounded so artificial. I personally think that the way lexus did it was great. It honestly makes the car sound more like a V8 than anything.

Ok. I'll withhold judgement until we pick up the car on Saturday. Then I'll be an actual Club Lexus member.

f sport intake might sound quieter then stock but should see some small power gains

The 21-23 IS350 definitely does have artificial noise, there’s even a volume **** to adjust it or turn it off.

Indeed. Even the IS 500 has it. However, just like the 350, you still get added noise in the cabin mechanically anyway - so mine stays off.

For the 350, I made a video showing how to turn it off and a few clips to show the sound difference.
