Radio Year Interchangeability / Android Compatibility
Hey everyone- First time posting here, hopefully I'm in the right place, and not ignoring some stickied rule list or a post that already answers my question- but if I am, my apologies, and I hope you don't mind sharing any insight you may have on my questions anyway!
About a week ago, my 2009 IS250 Nav screen went black. After reading several posts on the topic here, it sounds like I either need a new logic board ($300) or a new head unit altogether (about the same price or more). Bleh.
One option I'm mulling over is the Android head units, however the majority of those don't appear to be compatible with models equipped with factory nav.
So my first question is this: Does anyone know what makes this "incompatible"? Is it fitment? Is there a specific function that won't work? Or is it an entirely different wiring harness that just makes it not worth messing with? (I'm decent with building computers, but definitely not an automotive audio guru by any stretch of the imagination). Side note: If anyone knows of an android/ "Tesla style" unit that works decently with a factory nav car, please let me know!
Second question: Another option could be for me to somehow strike gold and find a decently-priced used OEM head unit either online or at a pick-n-pull type yard. I actually saw one recently, but it was for a 2010. Am I stuck needing to look for only IS250 cars from 2006-2009? Or would an IS350 from those years work? Or would a 2010-2013 version work? Sometimes for other vehicles I've found "interchangeability lookup" type charts or databases where you can see what parts work between models, but I haven't seen anything like that for my IS250 as of yet- but maybe you savvy folk know off the top of your heads!
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you may be able to share!! It's much appreciated. I'm in Arizona, and lemme tell ya- it sucks not having an A/C car at the moment!!
