Does US Spec Enform Radio/Nav Unit work on Canadian Spec
Hello Everyone, I previously posted a thread regarding issues I was having the the Radio/Nav unit in my car continuously rebooting. It led to not turning on at all during the summer months and briefly turning on during the winter months and shutting off shortly after.I have tried everything in the books, disconnect the battery terminals, update the firmware, etc.. it has all failed to fix the issue. I've come to the desicion that I'm going to purchase a new(refurbished) unit that will be coming from down south. However I realize that US models come equipped with Enform , something that canadian models did not come with up until 2019/20 models.
My question is , since the unit should most likely be a plug in and play type of deal, how will the unit or car react to having one installed from the US ? I don't care for enform to work, as all I really want to to listen to music again !! One difference I noticed from the US spec units is that it doesn't have a memory card located on the front like mine has.
- Will it work seamlessly with my current GPS equipped car,
- Will I have issues such as error messages popping up on the screen
-Does the GPS on enform vehicles work via live feed such as cellular network
-Will I have issues with XM Radio due to the fact the XM serial number is probably registered in the US
The questions are endless, but just a rough idea of what I'm trying to understand here.
I guess the major question here would be, will the US unit be fully functional with everything I did have on the car minus the enform.
I'm going to attach a photo of my unit where you will see the memory card slot(2014), the US versions, and I'm sure some newer models post 2015 don't have this slot.
Help!! I going crazy with silence in the car
Sorry about the dust this is the worst my car has been dirty.
Wow, that does suck big time! I couldn't drive around without music in the car!
I'll be the first to respond with the least amount of information. I've only owned my 16 IS F Sport for three weeks.
My unit here in the US looks the same, with a door for the memory card just like yours.
The experts are sure to chime in soon. I don't know if it matters, but you might want to say what year and model car you own.
Best of luck with this issue!
Hey Jazzrock, any amount of information is helpful, and I appreciate your response. This has been driving me insane driving around with no music, luckily I don't drive the car to far, too and from work. I miss having control of the cars functions, such as controlling the climate, switching to gps to find side roads when traffic is heavy, the car interior wise feels dead with out it.
And in response to your question , I currently own a 2014 IS250 F Sport, it was the last year they stopped producing them, and I believe they may have used updated units on the newer models, from receiving so many complaints from every one that has had this issue. This is a prime example why not to buy a new gen model from the year of release.
The navi equipped units have the door on the front for the micro SD card slot...the SD card contains the map data.
The non-navi units do not have the door for the micro SD card.
If you've ordered one without the door, then it's not a navi unit...sorry.
Having said that the unit should function otherwise, except any subscription based services like Lexus Enform.
If you just want to listen to music, then that shouldn't be an issue.
Hey Sasnuke, goot to hear from you. I haven't yet ordered it, but that pretty much answers a lot actually. It was too good to be true, and good thing you pointed out all the navi units have the SD Card slot, because there were people posting up units with Radio/Nav , but the pictures displayed a unit with out the SD slot. In all fairness the seller seemed to sell quite a bit of units with a good rating, I assume maybe they're just using a generic photo, different descriptions. I messaged to inquire, haven't heard a responde yet. I just wasn't sure if maybe the newer models came with a different trim or updated units that didn't require the SD slot anymore. If I find the right replacement, with NAV, I'm wondering if I could subscribe to enfom from Canada if it came down to it. If the moment is right.I like the idea of remote starting the car from the app.
Not having Enform here in Canada until recently, I haven't seen it personally in a Lexus yet.
My understanding is that for it to work, aside from the subscription, the vehicle will need to have cellular service.
With the new Lexus that have Enform, the vehicles come with cellular service free for 10 years...and have cellular built into the vehicle.
So even if you got a US unit, your vehicle still has no cellular service, so even if you send a command from the app, the vehicle has no way to receive it.
The safest thing you can do is get a unit that has the same faceplate ID as yours. The faceplate ID can be found to the left of the micro SD card door. It will start with the letter "P".
That makes complete sense now, they're probably harder to come by, and if they pop up they're either too expensive or they're gobbled up fast. In that case, as long as I get my original functions back, Im happy. It's funny you mention the faceplate ID, because I was searching up under that ID on the lexus website and the prices I seen quoted in MSRP were astromonical , a fraction of what the car is worth.
Very nice looking car there is250spor! I bought my Mercedes Benz CLA in 2014, the first year it was sold. I had it until a month ago, when
I sadly totaled it, but it saved me from injury. Everyone needs all the air bags on their vehicles. I never had anything serious with the car.
I do love my Lexus now, for sure!
