My 06 is350 with 70k miles had a pretty bad melted sticky dash and I couldn’t stand it. This week I flocked it and quickly found out how much of a struggle prepping the sticky dash can be. I tried cleaning it with scotch brite pads and lacquer thinner without much success and moved on to filling the cracks with body filler. After body filler I cleaned the dash again with lacquer thinner then put 3 light coats of black paint on and then wiped it down again and flocked. It didn’t come out perfect by any means and there were a few spots I messed up when I started putting the vents back on the dash (I let it cure for over 24 hours). But here is a few pictures during the process and results

The only thing I would do differently next time is I would leave the climate control tubes attached to the dash and mask them off. I went to put them back on and messes up a couple of small spots in the flock. I’m about to do my upper door panels in flock so they match, I’ll mask them off really well and probably skim coat the whole upper with body filler to help seal up the sticky mess better

Honestly it was super easy you just have to take your time prepping the dash. I didn’t even consider alcantara or something like that because I suck at sewing and upholstery but if that’s in your skill set and you have a sticky dash, it won’t hurt to try. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work and you flock it or get a dash cover

No sewing required and probably a lot less (zero) prep work. Just use spray contact cement on the dash and material, stretch it over and tuck/glue the edges.

Did you do alcantara on the door panels too? And how did it hold up?

Sorry for the confusion, my dash and panels were all OEM dealer replaced. Although my current vehicles all have Alcantara door panel (inserts). Alcantara holds up very well.

ohhhh, I was going to ask how you separated the upper from the rest of the door panel and reattached it. But that makes sense
