Default what can a locksmith do with your info after making u a key?

I ran into a good deal into getting a copy of a key fob for my 2009 is250, however this particular locksmith comes to you (like most in my area), i have only one key but want a second one. But now im thinking, this guy is gonna come and make a complete copy of my key and information, and do so infront of my house (so now where my car is going to be everynight) cut the manual key too.

Just exactly what can a locksmith do with that info, and can i find out/modify how many keys my ECU has and can access my car so i know if he did something slick on the side?

I suppose its possible they could misuse data... That said, call and ask what hardware they use to do the initialization and read up on it. As for the key, its manual clone unless you have the OEM keycode and they process it that way to machine a new duplicate key. I'd said the risk is small, don't worry too much about. Or driver there and meet them?

In most cases, NOTHING is stored except your bank card! Lol j/k!

what i mean is can he bring another key along and keep it in his pocket and ALSO program that key along with the key he is going to give me, then just leave with that key in his pocket and come back later to use it? is there a way for me to know just how many keys have been programed into my ecu?

another reason i ask is because she said that i must have all current keys with me when new one gets programmed other wise they will be deleted if i dont have them with me, so in other words the "keys" there are the ones that will get programed, hence if she has one hidden to program as well....?

Based on your concerns, buy the fob and do it yourself at home. Then just have the locksmith cut the key. Win win...

that’s to sync the immobilizer and ecu. I don’t believe that will do anything for actually pairing keys.

If they have a good reputation and been in business for years it’s not because they are stealing cars. If the location bothers you do it at your parents or a friends place or in a Walmart parking lot

Most actual locksmiths have to go thru DCJS to obtain licensure for locksmithing. That includes FBI background checks , etc.I suppose anyone can do something nefarious though.

You are probably going to have to trust someone to do the programming - unless YOU invest in the equipment (and who knows about training to get it right) I read somewhere about Techstream being able to do what you need done - I paid a local Locksmith to do exactly what you need done.

Looking back I think each fob has a unique ID. The cars ECU is accepting an addition with a unique ID. Sort of like a MAC address on other wireless technologies. In short the keys are not cloned except in the case of thieves who make a living of stealing cars. And to my understanding this is not a mechanical function of a transmitter, more of software function to duplicate an existing RF ID.
