I’m looking at my 08 IS steering wheel and it’s not aging well, the fitment of my horn cover is off, it’s peeling and getting rough. I really like the look of the third gen steering wheel. Would there be any problems with this swap? I would just route the mode wire in a slightly different place etc. Any reason is wouldn’t work is I guess the question I am asking
I dont know if it fits but even if it did fit, you will have issues getting the switches on the steering wheel working as they have different resistance values. Then you will also have to check if the 3IS airbag is compatible with the 2IS too. So the simple answer is it wont be straight forward. Not to mention the 3IS steering leather also suffers from the same aging issues you might be experiencing. I've seen a few 3IS steering wheels peeling. Have you considered just re-trimming it? have a look at my post here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-f-emblem.html
I'm just finishing up re-trimming another 2IS steering for my nephew in orange stitching below are some pics.
Nice job re-doing the steering wheel cover. That is the route I would take. Thankfully my 2010 IS350's steering wheel still looks brand new. The previous owner took care of the car. BTW, dashboard is new thanks to Lexus changing it under the Sticky Dash extended warranty
