Default How do you remove the battery

I think I have a dead battery (I don't have a tester, just a trickle and it doesn't seem to charge). Parked it yesterday, a few hours later, nothing. No power what's so ever (just the green light on the start button). Tried to jump it and it started then died (then had to get dinner, so didn't try again) But I think it's the original batter, so it's time for a new one anyway.

But my real question is, how to you get the battery box off? The positive cable is attached to the side of it. Tried to pull it off the box by the metal piece bolted to the box and prying out the loops that go around the cable. Neither seemed to work and I don't want to break the plastic. I know it's a stupid question, but help would be appreciated.(it's an 08 is250).

So by reading your post I'm assuming the terminal is stuck on the battery?
Same thing happened on my friend's car. I just sprayed some WD-40 on it and waited for a bit and it came right off.

No the terminals are not stuck, they came off easily (and they are very clean). There is a plastic box that goes over the battery with a bracket on the side. Attached to that bracket are the 2 positive cables. My problem is that I can't get the cables off the bracket, so can't remove the box (and therefor the battery). Either I need to pry the bracket off the box or remove the cables from the bracket. I tried prying and pulling, but I am afraid I am going to break the plastic. I was hoping someone here has done it and can give me a hint before I just pry away.

I did find a few videos out there of a battery change, but none had that box installed (I am amusing previous changes broke it or it wasn't the right size battery so they couldn't put it back). All they did was disconnect and drop a new one it. As a matter of fact, some were wrong (always remove the negative terminal first!).

I took mine off the first day I got my car. I knew it would be a pain if I got stranded out somewhere on a dead battery. I just literally disconnected the battery and hacked the plastic off with sheet metal snips. Then you can use a screw driver to un clip the power wire from the insert. I never really checked if I could move it out the way, and not hack the cover. So maybe you can try and do it that way.

I was trying to avoid the "rip it apart" method (put may have to go that way if I can't figure it out).

Yeah there's a way to unclip the bracket that holds the cable in place. From what I remember I just used a flathead to pop them off. Took a bit of force but they came off. I'm sure there's a proper way of doing it but I just got frustrated and went with the screwdriver.

Thanks, that was it. The video shows one cable bracket, but I have two. Hard to get to (and really can't get at it like they show in the vid), but a bit of hard prying popped them open. Thanks.

With very long nose pliers; aka needle nose pliers, the one way tabs can be depressed and the cables pulled away from the box.
Once free trim the barbed tips back so that once inserted, the cable holder stays but with some force it will pop free!

If not prepared it can be a bear tho!!!
