Default Feels good to be back.

I'm back! I sold my LS400 a couple years ago after I picked up my Supra. I was Lexus-less for a couple years but I just picked up an IS250, this will be my first IS car ever and I love it. I needed a DD for the wife so it had to be AWD and get good MPG. I looked at the A4, 335xi, and IS250 and each car had their pros and cons but I chose the Lexus for reliability purposes. I've had 3 SC's and a LS in the past so I'm familiar with the reliability of Lexus. My goal is to make this a nice DD so I'll probably lower it a little with springs or coilovers, get some nicer wheels, and do a 3IS conversion.

Quick pic of the IS in the garage.

Nice! Although I love my IS250, I think the 335xi would have complimented the supra, both being twin turbo inline 6s but with AWD. I have a friend who works on a lot of them and they are quick cars with a couple mods, but it's understandable that it's a car for the wife. I don't think I've interacted with you in the forums before but welcome back!

Yeah the 335xi would have been nice but I didn't want to deal with the maintenance that comes along with them. Seems like the higher they get in mileage the more of a money pit they become, I could say the same for the Lexus but at a lower cost. We currently have a fx35 that we downsized from and that had plenty of power already so the IS250 should be fine powerwise. According to your sig you've done quite a few mods on your IS250. How do you like it?

+1 the 335i are fast, but they are money pits. My coworker owns a 2007 with it 70k miles on it. There's always something wrong with it.

Yeah, boost leaks even before switching to a single turbo and VANOS problems/failures among other things my friend has told me about. Honestly surprised that they don't come stock with an LSD.

As for my ride, I modded it to be a cool looking but relatively clean and decent handling daily driver. I've got a build thread in that section. I love the handling mods the most when I can utilize them, getting rid of the body roll, lowering the car just a smidge for looks, and making it a lot flatter to go around corners. Not much in terms of power, just an axleback and tune basically, maybe +20-25 whp if I'm lucky. The tune mostly just helps the car feel more lively and the 7200 rpm redline is a nice touch, still slow but at least I can get to around 60mph in second versus having to add an extra shift into third. Given I live in Canada and I drive it year round, I've had to replace a bunch of bushings and control arms already. The RR Racing or FIGS lower mount LCA bushing was the best bushing change I've made, eliminates the excessive inner tire wear due to toe changes during braking, braking feels must better as well with less nose dive.

At the end of the day I'm happy with my ride as it is, surely I could have bought a stock ISF for all the money I've spent or maybe got a 335 and dumped money into that, but I don't want to deal with the v8 gas consumption or BMW problems where I am right now in life lol

Nice thanks for the feedback. I am also looking at that RR Racing tune just for the extra hp and higher redline. When you lowered your car did you get any vibration? If so how did you correct it?

yeah there's a noticeable vibration when stopped. I've gotten used to it now so i don't notice it as much. As for a fix, not really many official fixes but there was a member who made a thread about CNC'ing some axle spacers and apparently solve the issue

LOL! Yeah but I can't have 2 money pits. The Supra is actually very reliable as long as you aren't building it to be a dyno queen. It's an original 1997 Supra TT 6 Speed RSP Black interior and I am the second owner. The value of the car has actually gone up quite a bit so it's not really a "money pit" anymore, investment maybe? I don't drive the Supra much, I've owned it for 3 years and put 3k miles on it. Looking forward to making the IS250 my fun car and daily driver. Quick pic from earlier today when I started it up to get the fluids moving and pulled it out to see the sun.

Besides the wheels, all-original? I see why it's not a money pit then. LOL! Yeah, still a Toyota; so it'll be around a while. I look forward to the 2019 release at the Detroit auto show of the new Supra!

Welcome to the club!

It's not a Supra, it's a BMW dressed up in Toyota livery. I'd never own a BMW, regardless of the badge on the grill. BMW engine, BMW chassis, and BMW wiring issues, doesn't sound like a replacement for the Supra.

It came from the dealer with a sport package so it has a TRD intake drop in filter, TRD strut bar, and TRD cat-back. Other than that I added wheels, coilovers, and lip. I just tried to make it more modern and handle better.

I agree with you. I haven't owned any inline 6's from BMW yet because the rumors of their problems made me avoid them. I would have been happier if they took that new 3.5L twin turbo from the LS500 and put that in the new A90. We'll see how it does when it actually comes out. Maybe if it's a failure I'll pick one up when they are dirt cheap. LOL!

Yeah, we could talk all day about how we think it'll be a pile because BMW is part of it all and the reliability just might not be there. But only time will tell!

True! Supra name aside it's still an exciting car no doubt since it'll be the return of a turbo car for Toyota. Maybe they should just call it the A90 and not Supra.
