Hello cl, i about to buy a 2006 is350. The car is almsot in perfect condition. The selller blew a head gasket and replaced the whole engine, new engine has 105k miles. He also replace two cats and claims the only problem is one of the o2 sensor needs replace. Im gonna be honest i fell in love with the car but is it worth 6k? He claims to sell it because he just had a baby and wants a camry which is bigger.

Any pics of the car? Sounds like alot of issues to begin with if he blew the original engine? 2IS's are very affordable now. If I were you I'd keep looking .

Is there any sort of documentation from Lexus or a shop showing where they diagnosed the issue as a blow HG and recommended a replacement engine? Who installed the new, unused motor and how many miles on the used motor? Alot of unknowns here; but if it's all legit, could be worth it!

He claims to have all documentation from all the work done. What should i be looking for? I know the engines are affordable so i can see why he wanted something with less miles. I dont really mind a project car. As long as its manageable and i can eventually get it up to par.

He claims that he opted to get a new engine instead of having the old one fixs because it had less miles. He claims that new engine had 100k miles when install and now has about 105k

Price sounds OK, maybe. I'd keep looking if it was me. More than likely that particular IS 350 has been run and run hard over it's "many mile" life.

Now you did say that you are ready for a project. My guess is that this car might be more of a "project" for you than you bargained for. JMO
