Default Alternator replacement recommedation

Hello,

Would anyone have any recommendations on where to purchase an OEM alternator? I replaced my alternator with one from Orielly's roughly 6 months ago and it appears to have crapped out on me. The symptoms I had where the battery light would come on when my car was under 1500 RPMs and it would go away if I where to rev the engine any higher. It pretty much started dying on the freeway and luckily I had enough juice to exit and pull into a parking lot. I do have a warranty however I am not sure how trustworthy the replacement would be since it went out on me. Also any thoughts on purchasing OEM refurbished alternators?

Thank you

Hi Merkin,

I can't recommend another place for an OEM alternator, but i had a similar issue with the re manufactured one I got from O'rielly as well. My first one lasted 2 years and they replaced it with another one 6 month ago. Lifetime warranty is great, but this in one difficult alternator to change out.

Good luck.

Well, if OEM is what you want, you're options are limited. Dealership or online. Google the P/N and purchase whatever is cheapest.

Any thoughts on re-manufactured ones? Seeing a ton of those online.

Thanks guys since I do have a warranty and will be replacing it myself I am just going to get a warranty replacement. Now another question once I loosened up the alternator for removal some coolant or something leaked out. Any idea as to why?

i think most all replacements remanufactured alternators were once a Denso. They quality depends on who the remanufacters are and the quality of the replacement windings. The 2IS is a fairly easy to reach replacement.

if this were one of the Toyota FWD 350 V6 like in the ES, RX, Sienna or Highlander, I’d definitely spend more on a Denso new since you practically have drop the engine and remove the radiator to access it.

also FYI, Denso does have their “First Time Fit” marketed replacement parts now at a fraction of dealer price. The Denso remanufactured one is around $230 with core trade.
