Default Door mirror is rotating now

I have a 2009 IS250. I came out after a doctor's appointment to find my passenger side mirror no longer has a "detent" in its rotation where it belongs: it's free to spin on its mount. I lifted the assembly up a bit and found some corroded, shattered ring shape partially remaining just sitting under it. I don't believe it was hit since i was in a handicapped space with nothing next to it. Just age of the material? The dealer wants $509 to replace the ring and fix it. Alternatives?

Thanks!

Here is a video showing how to repair, assuming you can find the ring.

Wow, thanks a lot! I figured some delicate retaining ring had come off the bottom. Then I see this guy have a massive rubber hammer and huge pipe wrench and .....WTF?? Never would have guessed. Hope that's my problem too, though I see a fractured piece of something at the bottom, so I'm not sure. Thanks again!

I did a search and found nothing. Must be doing it wrong...

I had the same thing happen. It kept slipping, so I drilled through the metal pot (avoid the wires), pushed it down and held it in place with a pin.
