Default Steering Wheel Memory Position Malfunction

Lately the steering wheel memory position has been malfunctioning. When I turn the car off it retracts normally but when I restart it will jam occasionally and not extend out and I have to turn off/on the car several times so the steering wheel will extend out.

What is malfunctioning and can I turn off the auto retract and keep the wheel where it is?

To answer your second question, having the steering wheel retract when the car is turned off is an LPS setting (Lexus Personalized Setting); your dealer can disable it, as can anyone with access to a Techstream scan tool.

Default Motor now out

It just went from bad to worse. The steering wheel goes in and out but not up and down. When I move the little joystick it makes a click but steering wheel doesn't move. And its stuck in the up position very annoying. Will have to have a tech look at it.

UPDATE--the up and down is now working again. But still having it checked tomorrow by a Lexus master tech who has his own shop.

I went to an independent shop yesterday--the tech used to be at a Lexus dealer--he plugged in his scan tool and was able to go into vehicle settings and disable the steering wheel retract--got that done! He did also confirm that the rear shelf bass speaker is going out and the ML replacement is very expensive.

Are you talking about the noise that it makes the first time you (or your passenger) open the door after turning off the car? If so, it's the steering wheel lock engaging.
