have a lexus is 350 2006. power steering went out and card started jumping from 3-5 mph. finally got it parked and opened up hood with plastic smell. took off terminal of battery and charged batter overnight. put it back on and car started. did not drive it. Parked it for 3 hours and then tried to start again and it was dead. Battery very hot and plastic smell. put NEW battery in and when trying to put hot terminal on it sparked and would not stop. battery hot again. Took it off due to thinking something might blow. Any ideas??? Paul

 

Replace the alternator.
