There is no filter. It is a screen. No you don't need to change it. Just drain and fill pan.

You can if you want; but I'd leave it be. I just did 5 "trickle flushes" on my '06 IS350 auto trans; easy process actually with the right tools. Get a manual hand-pump fluid transfer pump, a 5mm hex, and get new crush washers for the drains and a new O-ring for the fill bolt. My trans would only release 2qts at a time; so it was an all-week process during one each day.

You don't have to change it out. If you really want, you need to drop out the transmission pan, take off the filter and replace it, Replace the seal.

Well, yes, working in a transmission shop your friend may see a couple of bad transmissions out of the thousands of IS 250s out there. Doesn't mean squat.

I don't buy it for another reason. A bad tranny in a 2012 with 50,000 miles would be covered under the Lexus 6 yr/70k mile powertrain warranty, so why would anybody pay out-of-pocket to have it done at an independent shop?
