Some time ago I smashed into a set of train tracks where the surrounding concrete had subsided quite a bit; everything looked ok at first, but when driving at night, I noticed that the headlights were completely out of alignment. Having aimed them before, I turned the usual adjustment dials, but the beams hardly moved, and after a few turns, they "clunked", and the driver side beam is now pointed at the ground and the passenger side beam is pointed high enough to blind other motorists. No amount of turning of the ***** will get them to move, so I assume the actual bulb assembly has fallen off the tracks of the adjustment gimbal. In the attached picture, the car is parked fairly close to the garage door on an upward-sloping driveway, so in normal driving, the driver beam points down to about 15 feet in front of the car while the passenger beam points skyward about one degree.
Car is a 2007 IS350 with HIDs and AFS. Has anyone ever dealt with trying to fix this issue?
You'll probably have to separate the headlight and fix it, that is if it is fixable. I would say it's possible driving over those messed up train tracks screwed up the AFS sensor which then messed up the headlight aim (although, it should of done both iirc).
