Default Fuel Filter Replacement

Hey Guys,

I have been doing heaps of searching and can not find a tutorial ( With pictures ) on how to replaced the fuel filter.
I know it is 'in tank' but I don't care. I want to replace it as it's hit 100k miles and I would like to know if anyone has any advice/direction.

I have a fuel filter on standby from Toyota waiting to go.

Cheers guys

I haven't changed the filter on an IS before, but if its anything like most other Toyotas the pump assembly is one big cage assembly that comes out as a whole, the filter is a little bag type filter that is on the feed of the pump. It shouldn't be too difficult, once you get the back seat off you should have access to it.

GM no longer recommends replacing filter at a scheduled interval either. Just when noted restriction in fuel flow. Which is very rare. I haven't seen it an issue on a fuel injected engine since the early 80's. Its just rare.

I had a lot of issues on my 98 GS400 over changing the fuel filter. How to do it was important. Honestly I would leave it alone on Lexus. I'll have to find my info on it I saved on here, I don't remember the details.

Here you go. I didn't any take pictures at the time. It was too cold to be taking photos by myself. See links on page from other people doing it. As my wording describes what you'll run into. I was already used to it working on my old GS400.

Great reference here. 190K on the clock, I replaced the fuel filter a week ago after driving the car for 2.5yrs. With the help of this thread, I managed to soak up only two shop towel of fuel during the work. Swapping out the pump and other part to the filter housing isn't as complicated as I thought from viewing Youtube earlier. The most time consuming task is to carefully hook out the pump o-ring. Overall, it's a 15mins job end to end. While I do not have fuel pressure gauge to measure the scientific result, here's the user finding. First, the filter cut open same as the picture on this thread, completely black filter element. Second, the car idle much smoother now. Before, I thought my engine mount is totally bad cuz the "cheap car vibration" appears when waiting on red lights in drive. I often put it to N just to work around the steering vibration. With the fuel filter replaced, this "cheap car vibration" is totally gone. Idle in gear or not, with or without AC, it's the same smoothness. Hardly notice the engine is running now. I strongly recommend to spend 30mins reading / watching videos and spend 15mins changing the fuel filter if it is still an original filter for the milage. A bit cross-referencing: mine is a 2004 LS430. Guess most Toyota has the same fuel filter system in that era.
