Had my 2008 IS 250 for 8 years now, two weeks ago, changed the original battery (yes, it lasted 8 years ... changed it myself. I hope i did not cause the touch screen to go out. All systems ok, just no response on touch screen.

It is very likely that your digitizer has failed. You can buy a replacement on eBay. There is also a DIY for fixing it with a circuit writer pen here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...n-fix-diy.html

So you have something illuminating on the display; just the touching does nothing...correct? If so, either a new digitizer or a new screen (comes with a new digitizer) will fix your problem. If you're handy with electronics, you can probably accomplish this. If not, a local stereo shop would probably take on the task.

Yup, everything is illuminating just fine on the screen. Just touching does not do anything. I just ordered toshiba touch panel from ebay. I will probably have a stereo shop guy do it... hopefully it works. Toyota/Lexus dealership here quoted me $5400 to fix it (they change the entire console/system). ridiculous!

^Very good! Should only be a 2hr job. In fact, to help cut down on the time/labor, uninstall the NAV yourself and save them about hour!

If you remove it yourself, just be very careful not to damage the dash when removing the vents. I've seen countless pictures here of the carnage that happens when people aren't.

You are right! The stereo person would not be as careful and protective as i would towards my car. But since i am not handy i have printed the step-by-step process and downloaded the youtube movie, so i will educate him before he starts removing anything. Waiting for the shipment to get here, and crossing my fingers things will go well!

So true! The vent removal was the most difficult part of the entire thing! LOL! My dash has a slight chip in it from where I was turning the semi-removed vents upward and it got caught on one of the clips that hold the vents in place in the dash. Was soooooo pissed at myself! Good thing is that I get a new dash from Lexus! So all is well.

I just got the digitzer from German Audio Tech, got fooled by their cheating add (they say it is new and it is toshiba, but after seeing this screen) i am sure it is not new nor toshiba.
I just measured the resistance for the pins, and did not match those listed:
"The resistance between pins 1 and 3, and 2 and 4 should be about 500 and 1700 ohms." mine are half those values.
Should i proceed and uninstall the dash, or should i return this digitizer and get a new one from somewhere else? will it work?

^You don't have to remove the dash to remove the NAV unit. It should only take 5 minutes on the vents and a couple of minutes at most on the lower trim pieces to get at the two lower bolts.

I'd give it a shot.

I went ahead and tried it over the weekend at a professional audio shop; just guided the guy with the youtube instructions and the system is now functional. It seems the resistance reading before installation does not really have to be what is specified in a previous add. The digitizer I got had half those reading and it still worked. Glad all is back to normal.
@Gville350: not sure what you meant by 5 min to get to the screen! It took two hours to uninstall and install again. Anyways, all worked great.
Thanks folks for your input

^What I said was "5 minutes on the vents and a couple of minutes at most on the lower trim pieces". Yes, the whole disassembiling the NAV unit itself will take a while; alot of little screws and have to be careful not to pull any wires out of where they belong.

You are right, so many little screws, but video taping everything makes putting it back easier. I just can not believe I ended up paying a total of $150 (includes labor and parts) to fix this major issue, when the dealership quoted me $5400 (here in Beirut). It is just insane.
Thanks guys

^Yeah, that's a typical dealership for you. Mine said the same thing, except mine was "ONLY" going to be $3400. They just didn't have ANY experience of opening up one of the NAV units and attempt a fix; so the only recourse is to replace the whole thing.
