What car model do you have? If you have the IS250, it's more likely the carbon build up issue. Lexus has extended warranty on that issue for 9(?) years and unlimited miles.

The MAF is located just to the right of the filter box, on the intake tube and faces toward the cowl.

I'm not sure what you mean by "buggy" but if you mean it sputters sometimes, its prob carbon buildup. The dealers fix only slows carbon buildup down, so symptoms can return. If its really a problem you can have the dealer, or some other shop do a top engine clean. I had the carbon buildup fix done 30K miles ago, and there have been a few instances of sputters, but not enough for me to bother with a cleaning. I highly doubt its the MAF, unless you have a K&N air filter which uses oil. I guess cleaning it cant hurt, but i certainly wouldnt waste money replacing it.

The year is not unlimited ... I think it might be 9 years; so check your service records on when the car is sold to a person. Also, what you posted looks like the carbon build up fix. When was that done? Normally, the Lexus dealership will warranty their work for 1 year and some number of miles.

it was done in 2013 so unfortunately looks like out of warranty. also just called my lexus and the car is over the 9 years so its out of the warranty for that too

it costs $600 to do the engine cleaning and the rep also said he recommends a $200 cleaning of the intake and things which he said should be done every 30k miles. what do you guys think? should i try to find a better price for the engine cleaning elsewhere or is it something lexus knows best and i should have them do it?

There is no cleaning of the intake every 30K miles -- there is replacing the engine air filter if the previous owner didn't do it (you can easily do that yourself). I'm not sure about the cost of engine cleaning on the car; my brother's BMW needed engine cleaning done that was about $200 in a shop.

You can check all the services required/recommended by Lexus here:

sorry i meant to say intake valves and things like that, and the sales rep said he personally recommends that for direct injection engines. thanks I'll look into another shop for the top engine clean... seems like this is a common problem with these engines

Yes the dealer is going to be alot more expensive then a private shop. One company that makes reputable engine cleaning products/services is BG. You can you use this link to find a shop that uses there products/services http://www.bgfindashop.com/locator/index.php
