Why are you pumping the gas at all? Just put your foot on the brake and push the start button.

Evaporative emissions codes are frequently caused by a loose or bad gas cap. Could also be clogged charcoal canister, problem with purge control valve, etc.

^^i think he means after fueling up.. he's not depressing the gas pedal multiple times.

Sounds like a gas cap issue if it only happens after fueling.

I'm assuming the OP is talking code P0440. If the's the case, the gas cap is one of the causes of that code, and it sounds like that could be the issue.

well, if you have already changed the gas cap, why don't you just bring your car back to the dealer and tell them that you are experiencing problems after the fuel leak recall.

That's what I get for posting before I've had my first cup of coffee.

Sounds like the purge valve solenoid may be disconnected.

(This question sounds familiar...)

^^ Agree with Mike.

Check that your EVAP purge solenoid is not stuck open. If it is stuck in the open position, it can flood your engine after you've filled gas. Pressing the gas pedal down and trying to start the car puts most fuel injected cars into a "clear flood" mode that limits fuel delivery until the car starts, which is why you can start it after pushing the gas pedal down.

Check it out, it's a cheap part that can be changed pretty easily if that's what it is.

Good luck!

Take it back to dealer and have them put it back together correctly, too many hacks in the dealerships these days.

I would get this issue also, but only happened once in a while after getting gas and sometimes just out of nowhere. Not sure if it's related, but my fuel pump ended up going bad. I replaced mine at 130k miles.
Since I replaced the fuel pump, hasn't happened yet.

I agree by taking it back immediately. Hopefully it's something they did or didn't do; hoping its not one of your fuel pumps.
