Default IS350 Nav issue

Hey everybody,

I've been lurking on the site for years, and have finally decided to join.

I have an issue that I can't figure out. I have a 2007 IS350 with ML sound/ nav. The nav screen is unresponsive to touch. The physical buttons on the sides work, except the map, directions, menu buttons. I am unable to use the map at all. The unit displays the following message:

[Map DVD

Unable to read data.
Check if map DVD is correct]

I would really like to get this to work instead of replacing it.

I found a newer unit for $500 from a 2010, but it's not a ML. Will this matter for the navigation section?

Default Search frozen screen

The 2010 unit will most likely not work. It's a newer system and I'm sure that the connections have changed. There is an authorized service center in New York that you can find on eBay. This is most likely your best source to get it fixed. If you want to do it yourself there are some YouTube videos on how to do it. Links to the videos can be found on this sight of you use the search function. The 'how to' tech article section shows you how to remove the Navigation screen.

The common issue is a ribbon cable that loses its electrical conducive properties. YouTube videos will show you how to fix it for a couple of bucks. If this is above your comfort level there's always the eBay repair company in NY.

Thanks for the reply. I've seen the videos on the ribbon issue, which may be the issue. I may give that a try and hope it fixes it.

The nav unit for $500 is from a is350c, by the way.

Did the map/NAV issue exist before the touchscreen became unresponsive?

No, the issue seems like it all happened at once.

I'd start with either replacing the digitizer or the entire screen and see if that get the touch functionality back working. From there, hopefully that fixes the NAV issue; if not, I'd try ejecting the NAV disc and re-insert to force it re-load.

Good luck!

Cool. I've ordered a new digitizer and I will update when I have that replaced. Thanks for all of the assistance.

I had the same issue.. in my case, it was the ribbon.. scraped some of the glass, used the pen (writes metal) to fill in the gap from the scrapes, let it dry over night, plugged it back in and it worked.. I also bought an extra digitizer from ebay if that didn't work.. didn't need it. instead sold it on craigslist.. someone bought it and I offered my install service for $100.. got it installed and made a few bucks out of it

good luck..

So I replaced the digitzer and the screen is now working!! YAY.
BUT, the navigation still has the message:

[Map DVD

Unable to read data.
Check if map DVD is correct]

So i ended up replacing the entire unit and now everything is working. Thanks for the help.

If you have "the external systems is not connected" something like that. Yo need to buy Nav DVD drive.
