While driving on Beltway 8 to work a gravel hit my windshield and now I have a line that goes from the passenger corner all the way to the middle . I want to replace it but if I get it from the manufacture the cost is $1,700.00 before taxes. My insurance deductible is $1,000.00. I have done some research and here in Houston they have this place that has good online reviews. They can replace my Windshield for $399.00. I have an IS250 2012 model. No rain sensor, but I heard something about heated seats. Any ideas please.......
I don't live in TX, so I cannot comment on insurance there. But here in SC, if you have comprehensive, NO MATTER THE DEDUCTIBLE, insurance has to replace your windshield (or fix it) for free. In your case, it will have to be an entire new windshield though.
Have you called your insurer yet to talk to them about the windshield? Do you have comprehensive? Pilkington is a good brand, if you cannot swing an OEM one.
Since you have no rain sensor, you'll just have a plain 'ol windshield...nothing fancy.
Thank you GVille350.
Yes, I did call my insurance and they said that I would have to pay first my deductible, which is $1,000.00 and they will pay the rest.
Ouch! Well, when Sewell Lexus of TX had their online site up and running, their OEM Lexus windshield was <$1k. Do you have a Sewell Lexus near you? I'd visit them and tell them you need one with the Club Lexus discount.
Welcome to CL and sorry to hear about your issue. I was skeptical to have one of the mobile guys come out but I paid about $300 and the guy did a great job. No issues. Non oem btw

I called my local Lexus dealer and they wanted over a grand for the windshield and they referred me to a local business that they delegate their windshield replacements to. They used Pilkington to replace the windshield and it's held up rather well so far.

I had my windshield replaced recently and in FL the insurance replaces the windshield for free like SC.
I just moved to Houston, and just like you, a piece of gravel hit my windshield on the Beltway, due to all of the construction. Its just a small pebble on the windshield though, never expanded. I'm also debating on how to replace as well. Due to your higher deductible, I would suggest paying out of pocket for a cheaper alternative unless your trying to spend Lexus OEM dealer money just to have the Lexus stamp on it.
You can get Lexus windshield for about $700. If you have rain sensor or heated glass (not heated seats), you will need to paid a couple hundred more.
Non-Lexus windshields are not as good (even those from the same manufacturer), but most can't tell the difference. I switched from one to another and can tell the difference (side distortions and noise level), but it's not night and day difference.
If you drive on the freeway with constructions a lot and gets cracked windshield easily, I said go with cheaper option, if not, I would go with Lexus glass. I also found not driving over 70mph helps reduce the chance of windshield damage when I'm behind or beside a car/truck.
