Anyone ever price out a new windshield for the NX?

I was just at the dealer talking to the finance lady. She was pushing a Diamon Fusion windshield treatment. A supposedly nano-technology that is like Rain X but also protects the windshield from chips and cracks. If a crack occurs, they will replace the windshield, up to 5 times within the 5 year guarantee period.

Here is the kicker, the finance gal said a new windshield for an NX costs about $1700. Guess what the cost of the Diamon Fusion is? Yes, $1788.

You might want to check with your insurance carrier to see what kind of coverage you have for windshield replacement. Even with multiple replacements, chances are you won't come anywhere close to that $1,788 in out of pocket expenses.

My advice, keep the $1,788 in your pocket vs. theirs. Good luck with your decision.

If you google it you'll find 3 year old posts, charging $300, reapplying every 3-4 months. Even if they've improved the product to last longer I wouldn't pay that kind of money. What happens if the application company sells or closes?? If you're intent on putting on a nano coating, do some research of other products available.

I called the auto glass person and she didn't have a price for NX glass but said Lexus windows are expensive. And before I had the chance to mention it she said, whatever you do, don't buy the Diamon fusion. Only one place in Edmonton to get the rock chips fixed and need prior approval to do so.

I took Bob's advice and called our insurance provider. Preliminary estimate is just over $65 per year for glass coverage. $65 vs $1788......... Easy choice.
