Black pearl is as close as you can get to black chrome. The picture in that tutorial doesn't look like black chrome because he did more coats. Here is how it should look if you did less coats.

yes plastidip does have a matte finish to it! a lot of people do their emblems! if you put enough coats on it and do it correctly, it shouldn't look bad at all.

It's ridiculously easy to remove the grill, easier than taping up the surrounding area and you can do a higher quality job.

hobby stores should carry the black chrome paint. works very well

Looks like I may consider a plastidip / spray option and then adding a pearlizer or clear coat to get rid of that matte look.
