Default What years have the sticky dash problem?

Hey guys,

I was looking to buying a 2IS, and after years of owning a 1IS and dealing with the sticky dash problem, I am not looking to get into that again. Reading through a couple threads, looks like people with 2006-2007 IS' are mostly effected by it. Are owners with 2008+ also experiencing this problem?

To my knowledge, it's the 06-08 models that have the sticky dash issues.

Just remember not ALL '06-'08 models were affected! But seeing your are in HI, those model years would be more likely to have the issue.

I read through the thread and it said 2006 to 2010 are affected. If you live in a hot city, I would definitely tint my front windshield (clear tint or little dark) and use a windshield cover when parked or get a dash cover. I have an 08 and I bought it off an original owner who had a dash cover and mine looks perfect although I took the cover off

Not sure when or if they even changed the material on the previous generation IS but id think it would extend past 08. As the problem was from an automotive supplier that supplied to multiple car brands it is not a lexus only problem. Also, it took a long while to start developing if you didn't live in a hot state like CA or FL.

As long as there isnt any direct sunlight on the dash and the car you buy doesnt have it already you should be alright. Run a sun shade and never use anything other than water to clean the dash.

Yeah I usually just wipe my dash without using any products and it all depends on if you garage park or park outside. So many factors so take all of the precautions to be extra safe

My 07 is horrible!! I bought the car used about 2.5 years ago and i seen a few chips then but didn't know it was this bad of a problem. Since then the dash has gotten worse and really stick. The door panels are horrible also! The driver side is missing most of the black from the handle where you were close the door i guess from my leg always rubbing on it.

I never cleaned the dash with chemicals and when it was cleaned Lexus did the cleaning after oil changes. The problem has made my Lexus worthless i cant even sell it without taking a huge loss. I took it to carmax and they offered me like 4k for a 07 with 90k on it because the dash and panels needed to be replaced they said. It really makes me not want to buy a Lexus or recommend again even though I really like their cars and have the is250 and a rx400h.

btw there is a recall on on these years for the gasline issue. The nickel substance is coming off and making the fuel lines leak. So make sure you check to see if your car is on the recall list.

You said you bought it used. It could have been chemicals that previous owner used and it just brought it to the breaking point.

I have an '07, and never had a problem with my dash, but I just got a warranty extension notice through 2017.

Most likely there is a range of specific VIN numbers affected. See link for a chart showing specific VIN info. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...r%20Appearance Who knows if the range of cars affected has expanded beyond what's shown. My 2008 IS350 came off it's assembly line ~162 cars after the switch, so I am hoping I have the newer parts. So far so good.
