IS250 2008 - Windshield Replacement - Safelite
Recently my windshield was cracked by a rock while driving on the Edens exp. in Chicago. I had researched windshield replacement on Clublexus specifically on who to use (independent vs. Safelite) and the type of glass (OEM vs. Aftermarket).
I had my windshield replaced today and would like to share my experience for what it's worth.
I am insured through Liberty Mutual and they sub out their windshield replacement through Safelite similar to other insurance companies. I opened a claim and asked that I get a Lexus genuine, OEM "dealer glass". They called back and said that they had already planned to use this type of glass as I've requested. So the good news here is that I didn't have to haggle.
Safelite came to my house, replaced the windshield in less than an hour and it was a spot on match. Nothing out of place; all moldings and fittings are true and in place as expected. The glass is Lexus stamped, AGC Automotive, etc.
I had read from others that Safelite was "terrible" and that insurance companies fight genuine OEM replacements in many cases. In any event, I must have gotten lucky because everything was spot on.
