Default Weird grinding noise.

Can someone identify this noise? We noticed few days ago. Ticking is normal and amplified by garage walls.

Thanks in advance...

are you sure your car has enough oil on it? check oil level and also check those pulleys. It's more likely knocking sound but also could be bad pulley bearing.

I concur. There was another video posted a few years back that detailed the exact same noise.

Tech here, definitely a water pump about to let loose. I would recommend getting it address ASAP.

Easy to check. Using a 14mm wrench or socket, loosen the tensioner and remove the belt. You can spin the water pump pulley by hand and feel the roughness and/or looseness in the pulley.

That's the same noise I had. Definitely the water pump. It's probably leaking too, check for pink coolant stains.

I drove around with that same noise and a slow leak for a good month before I got mines replaced. Since you don't have a leak yet you might have some time. But its best advised to get it taken care of ASAP.

I wrote up a DIY last week when I replaced mines. Its fairly easy and can save you a lot of money if you're out of warranty.

just because there isn't a leak doesn't mean its still "good" with the bearings grinding the way they are in your video its only a matter of time until the bearings all stop spinning, seize up and have further damage to the engine

When the water pump fails, it is going to take other parts out with it. Your best course of action should be to replace it as soon as possible before it completely fails. It is a ticking time bomb.

Noticed a slight rattling noise on my drive home last night. Inspected the engine bay, sure enough, small amount of dried pink coolant on the block. Did a little research, and luckily I'm covered under the powertrain warranty until April of this year. I took it to a local Lexus dealership this morning, and they had it done in a couple of hours. They even did two outstanding recalls on the vehicle while it was there! Very very happy with the quick turnaround time. Now I just have to wait for the shuttle to pick me up

I will note that I asked the service rep to see if there was a TSB or CSP or recall for the carbon build up issue, and he could not find anything (I'm in Canada, car is a Canadian car). I'll also see if they filled up my tank, since a lot of people say that's what they do. Does anyone know why the TSB/CSP is not available in Canada?
