Just curious, I always like to keep a small took kit in the car, but I don't like having 100lbs of tools either. If I were to choose say, 5 wrenches/sockets to carry with me what sizes would they be?
Basically every Japanese car made has a 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm nuts/bolts for nearly everything. Keep both deep and shallow sockets, and box wrenches, a screwdriver with mulitple bits (phillips, hex, etc), a magnetic retriever, led headband flashlight...
For those of us with aftermarket wheels, a breaker bar and torque wrench with proper sockets/adapters thrown in with the spare tire will save you a huge headache and a lot of time in the event of a flat.
I would have 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, and 21. I've done all the work on my car myself except for warranty work and those are really the only size sockets or wrenches you'll need.
