Default False start problem. Need advice

My 2006 IS 350, which I've had since new, has recently been misfiring. That is, when you push the start button the engine turns over briefly, but does not start. Usually it starts on the second try, but sometimes takes up to 4 or 5. I have had it at the local dealer twice, and they are basically telling me to live with it. The first time I had it in they changed the plugs ( had never been changed- now at 85,000 miles) and did some other firing related things to the tune of $500! They commented on how they could tell that I had been using "good" gas. Then, when the problem continued, I took it back to them last week, and they said it was probably "bad" gas.
I called Lexus Consumer Care and they were of little help.
Anybody else out there have this problem, or suggestions on what to do? Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, have you ever changed the battery?

Agreed, start with a new battery.

Off-topic, where in SC are you located?

Test out the alternator and battery. Wouldn't be the first 1yr old battery in history being faulty.
